James Templeman, Ph.D.

Director of nutrition & formulation

James Templeman and his team ensure Primal recipes are nutritionally complete and balanced for the dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies for whom they’re made.

This means you can be confident your dog or cat is getting the very best, most biologically appropriate nutrition to live in their prime today, tomorrow, and for years to come.

Before he became part of the Primal team, James was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. While there, he researched how to best measure protein quality and how that knowledge can be applied to pet food.In addition to his postdoctoral fellowship, James holds a PhD in companion animal nutrition, a master’s degree in animal nutrition, and a bachelor’s degree in animal biology from the University of Guelph.

James works from home, where his three cats keep him company between their long, lazy naps. While sleeping is their favorite pastime, they also enjoy putting on their collars and joining James and his wife for evening excursions in their backyard.
