The Undeniable Benefits
Posted by Matt

Raw food diets offer our companion animals a species appropriate, nutritionally sound alternative to eating processed, cooked pet foods. Comprised of human grade meat and poultry products with the addition of a variety of fruits, vegetables, vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids, commercially available raw food diets provide a nutrient dense source of food in a 100% digestible format.

Evidence of the benefits of feeding raw present themselves quickly with such characteristics as an increase in energy, clear eyes, lush soft coats, bright white teeth, healthy pink gums, slim and muscular body tone as well as healthy bowel and intestinal health.

Primal Pet Foods is committed to elevating the health of all pets and we would appreciate hearing about the benefits that your pet has experienced as a result of eating a fresh raw food diet.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Primal is undeniable!! My cat enjoys Primal formulas daily. I can attribute his high energy level, great muscle tone and silky coat to this truly awesome Primal diet. I don't know all the scientific stuff, but the proof really is in the Primal. Because it's made of the best possible ingredients, I know he will enjoy a healthy and active life for many, many years to come. Thanks!Monday, June 08, 2009

Finnegan, our brand new Bernese Mt. Dog is 4 months old and we've been feeding her Primal Beef and Chicken formula patties. She can't get enough! I'm loving the product and as this is my first experience feeding raw I appreciate starting off with a balanced pre-mixed product.

My question concerns which of the formulas would your experts, and others reading this blog, consider best for a large breed puppy? And do you recommend supplementing anything with the formulas? Thanks and I love the new website...gives me confidence that you are going to stick around as a company. Good luck.Thursday, June 11, 2009

Heather, thank you for your feedback and we are glad to know that your Bernese is enjoying and thriving on our foods.

Our Canine Formulas are developed for dogs of all sizes, breeds, ages and levels of activity. The optimum feeding program is to rotate through our protein offerings. This regimen will ensure that your dog is receiving a nutritionally sound balance of amino acids, fats, calcium, phosphorous, vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids.

As for additional supplementation, raw meaty bones such as chicken and turkey bones as well as recreational bones such as beef and buffalo marrow bones are an excellent addition to any diet for optimum tooth, gum and jaw nourishment.

Thanks again and keep the feedback coming! Thursday, June 11, 2009

Hi!!!! Having become convinced some time ago that grain is not so fabulous for humans either I switched my dogs to grain-free kibble. They began scratching like maniacs despite me adding fatty acids. So after some research I found your food locally. WOW what a difference!

I have a doxie and a large-in-charge chihuahua and they eat the canine beef nuggets. They will eat them right out of the fridge barely defrosted! It's amazing -- I will never go back to dry or canned. You have made me a believer!

I always used the best premium organic food but they still had multiple health issues. Now my 8 yr. old doxie is bounding around like a puppy and has a waist again! They both seem so much happier :) She is however still scratching -- how long do you think until maybe that clears up? (it's not fleas or environmental) Do you think there is a particular formula that might be best?

Nancy, thank you for your feedback and we are thrilled to know that your dogs are enjoying our foods.

Regarding your Doxie and her scratching. Beef can be an allergen causing protein for sensitive dogs. Thus, we would recommend feeding alternative proteins such as duck, venison, quail and pheasant. Due to the fact that these alternative proteins are less often used in commercial diets, we have experienced fewer allergic reactions, such as scratching, with animals fed more "exotic" sources of protein.

In addition, certain pets require higher levels of omega 3 fatty acids. Thus, a small addition of cold water fish oil to the diet will be beneficial in reducing the inflammation that causes pets to itch.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance and thank you for your continued support.

My nine year old Pom needs a low sodium diet. In addition to his age, he has recently been diagnosed with "serious" heart disease. Is Primal right for him? If so, is there one that suits him more specifically? We are a new Primal buyer.Friday, August 28, 2009

Karen, thank you for your email. In regards to the proper diet for your Pom considering his heart concerns, Primal Formulas are diets naturally low in sodium with no additional salts added to the foods. Of our Canine Formulas, Pheasant and Venison contain the lowest sodium levels.

Our recommendation is to always consult your holistic veterinarian to determine the appropriate nutrient levels for your pet's individual dietary and health needs.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance with making this dietary decision for your Pom.

I've got a 6 month old, 3 pound toy poodle named Ozzy. He's been on holistic dog food since we took him home at 10 weeks, but I always thought a raw diet would be best. I didn't want to take the chance with preparing my own raw diet for him just in case I didn't give him all the nutrients he needs, so I was thrilled when I came across your product. I haven't tried it yet, but am looking forward to it and just had a couple of questions. Since it is a raw meat diet should I be concerned about parasites? And on a side note I was just wondering if this type of diet would have a positive or negative effect on his breath. I brush his teeth regularly anyway, but was hoping the raw diet would not create foul breath. Tuesday, October 13, 2009

Cheryl, thank you for your inquiry. Regarding your question about parasites; Canines are carnivorous mammals and are biologically geared to eat raw meat, poultry and game. Unlike humans that must cook their meat prior to eating, Canines can safely consume raw meat, poultry and game due to the fact that they digest and excrete their food rapidly as well as having a very high concentration of hydrochloric acid in their gut. Thus, you should have no concern about parasites when feeding raw diets to your dog.

As for the effect on your dogs breathe. Raw food diets are rich in active enzymes. These enzymes help to maintain your dog's natural healthy flora in the mouth and gut. Through better digestion, your dog should have breath that is void of offensive odors when fed a raw food diet.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.Wednesday, November 04, 2009

I Have a 1 year old golden retreiver that I have just started on the raw food diet. He has had issues of itchiness and hot spots in the past and I hope that this will help him. What food would be the best for him and should I mix in any kind of dry kibble in his diet. I was told to mix in The taste of the wild dry kibble in with this. Is this the correct thing to do? Thursday, November 12, 2009

Linda, often times animals exhibit this behavior due to food allergies. Feeding a raw foods diet can help in controlling hot spots and itchiness. It will be best to introduce one protein source at a time to help determine if any protein source will cause a reaction with your animal.

As far as adding kibble to the diet, we don't recommend that as that can complicate tracking down the cause of food allergies. Also, it isn't as good for your animal to digest since a raw product and a kibble product digest differently. By following a strict diet of single source protein and avoiding all grain sources, determining the direct cause of your pets itchiness will be easier to isolate.

We recommend trying either Lamb Formula or Duck Formula to start. These two varieties tend to do well with dogs with food allergies. If you are successful with one or both of these varieties, you can start to introduce other varieties one at a time to see if those would also be successful for your animal. Let us know if you have any further questions.Thursday, November 12, 2009

I am starting to feed my dogs The primal mixes with there dry kibble. (innova). My dogs are very large olde english bulldogs and i have two, both around 140 lbs. My question is how much of the mix do i add as a suppliment to their kibble. I know these are not a complete diet so i need to know how much to add. Monday, December 21, 2009

14

Marc, thank you for your inquiry. Our first recommendation is to feed the Mixes at a separate meal apart from the kibble as this will allow for proper digestion. The raw food should be fed in morning and the kibble in the evening.

As for feeding quantity, we would suggest calculating the feeding quantity of kibble that you are offering and balancing the total daily feeding with the Mixes. Thus, if the total daily required feeding is one pound per dog and you are feeding 8 oz. of kibble, you would feed 8 oz. of our Mixes at the morning meal.

Please let us know if you have any further questions and thank you for your support.Saturday, December 26, 2009

I feed my girls Primal nuggets, and have been given them wholistic vitamins with glucosamine chondroitin. Do they need the vitamins if Primal is so completely balanced?Friday, January 15, 2010

16

Hello Diana, thank you for your inquiry. The addition of a vitamin/mineral supplement is not necessary if feeding our Canine/Feline Formulas. Our Formulas provide an adequate daily supply of all necessary vitamins, minerals, glucosamine and chondroitin.

Please let us know if you have any further questions and thank you for your support.Thursday, January 21, 2010

Gosh, I wish I had read this discussion board sooner! My 4 year old male maltese has been on primal nuggets since puppy. He does great, his coat is healthy and he has maintained a good weight. I am guilty of mixing the Evo with primal, but will try your suggestion of primal in the AM and Evo dry in the PM. However, I do have a dilemma... he has been experiencing some allergies (mostly skin issues, dermatitis, and fungus "crust" on his nails). Do you suspect food allergies? Or is this more likely to be an environmental allergy issue? I do have him eatting both chicken and lamb primal. Should I just stick to the lamb? Thank you for your input.Monday, May 24, 2010
