In the past several weeks there has been rather disturbing news concerning
pet food contamination with Melamine and pet death resulting from the
consumption of the contaminated products. The United States Food and
Drug Administration (FDA) determined that some shipments of rice protein
and wheat gluten imported from China were contaminated with melamine
and melamine-related compounds. It has also been reported that salvage
pet food tainted with melamine has been fed to hogs and chickens in
Indiana. These animals have been quarantined. On April 27, 2007, the
FDA issued import alert #99-29 about detaining all vegetable protein
products from China for animal or food use, due to the presence of melamine
and/or melamine analogs.
The FDA and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) are continuing
to investigate the situation. FDA officials are testing products in
the marketplace that go into animal and human food. FDA stressed that
it does not believe at this time that melamine will be found in other
products, but it is conducting the testing as a precaution.
Diestel Family Turkey Ranch does not and has never fed animal by-products
in their feed formulas to our turkeys. We have contacted each of our
feed ingredient suppliers and have received documented verification
of either testing results showing no melamine or melamine-related products
or no receipts of Chinese ingredients at all. We are testing ingredients
in our own feed mill to ensure that our current ingredient base is free
of any and all melamine related compounds. Our feed mill also produces
organic feed certified by Oregon Tilth, which ensures only wholesome,
organic ingredients, are used in those organic formulations.
Since 1949, Diestel Family Turkey Ranch continues to produce premium
quality natural turkeys and turkey products. Our turkeys are fed a low
fat, vegetarian diet using no animal by-products or antibiotics.

are free of any melamine or melamine-related compounds.
